Gold helps develop the current run. Silver pays for unlock purchases between runs. Health lets you survive damage; nitro powers boosting. Identify which one is limiting your progress before choosing a captain, artifact or farming route.
Four resources with different jobs
| Resource | What it changes | Useful comparison | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold | Progression during the run | Gold gain versus the strength needed to reach the next fight | Assuming a Silver bonus also improves Gold |
| Silver | Unlock purchases between runs | Immediate module purchase versus a longer saving goal | Counting a finished quest reward as repeatable income |
| Health / HP | Surviving damage | Maximum HP versus restoring missing health | Buying only damage when recovery ends the run |
| Nitro | Boost approaches and escapes | Capacity, use rate, refill and boost speed | Treating V8 as a larger fuel tank |
Gold: develop the run without losing the route
Collect resources along a path your fortress can survive. Do not force a pickup through a larger enemy when the collision would remove your recovery margin. Your next equipment choice should improve the attack you can land, rather than splitting progress between unrelated damage plans.
Kapitalistus Maximus illustrates the difference between currencies: he improves Silver after a run but applies a 15% Gold penalty during the run in 0.9.10. That trade-off can slow your current development even when your goal is a later unlock.
Compare Gold's immediate 30-Gold effect with Tax's chance for enemy vehicles to drop a Silver coin. Read the currency and trigger before choosing; both being money effects does not make them interchangeable.
Silver: separate one-time rewards from farming
Choose an unfinished quest and check whether it counts actions overall or within one run. The Green Plains objectives for 20 Rams and five Harvesters accumulate across runs; their 1,000 and 2,500-Silver rewards are paid once for completion. Removing these bonuses from later runs gives you a useful comparison of ordinary earnings.
Use the Silver purchase-budget table to select one target. The 2,500-Silver Harvester reward covers Sire Jonah's 2,222-Silver purchase with 278 left, or Spiderburg's 2,500 price after its separate boss requirement. Those are alternative uses of one payout.
Buying a new option does not put it into your selected loadout. Revisit the captain, vehicle or equipment selection before the next run. Compare artifact prices and unlock requirements before saving for an expensive piece.
Nitro: choose between capacity, efficiency and speed
Plan enough nitro for the exit as well as the approach. Ordinary regeneration begins 0.5 seconds after boosting stops; running the tank completely empty triggers a separate overheat recovery. Short boost taps are therefore not the same as continuous immediate refill.
- V8 and V10 add 10% and 25% boost speed.
- Catalyst lowers boost consumption by 20%.
- Auxilliary Tank adds 20 maximum nitro.
- Hand Crank restores nitro when you consume a unit.
If your approach is slow but fuel remains, compare speed effects. If you empty the tank before leaving, compare efficiency or capacity. If you can consume safely between fights, an action-based refill may fit. The three-vehicle comparison separates base tank size from refill rate.
Health: recovery needs an opportunity to work
Check whether you need a larger health buffer or a way to restore missing health. Hardened Steel adds 30 maximum HP, while Heal restores 30% health. Repair Wrench offers healing when upgrading, at the cost of that upgrade choice; it does not provide continuous regeneration.
Recovery also depends on the captain and reachable targets. The Count heals through consuming units and removes health-box spawns. Vampire Tooth needs consumed units; merely striking an enemy with a Ram does not meet that condition. Keep smaller safe targets and an escape lane in mind.
Use health boxes, repairs and consume-healing comparisons to choose recovery for your captain. Keep a melee build alive between collisions before adding another finishing damage effect.
What should I improve first?
- Cannot reach the next encounter: fix health loss, recovery or an empty nitro tank.
- Survive but attacks miss: adjust firing angle, placement or pursuit route.
- Hits land but take too long: develop the matching damage type and attack uptime.
- The build works but an item is locked: check its task and Silver price, then plan the next purchase.
